Asia the bright pearl, a marvelous, proud ancient and modern legend. In 2019, the first Intercontinental Carnival of SUIS Qingpu Campus began in Asia, a magical place full of natural wonders, ancient history and rich cultural traditions.
当开幕式的精彩场景还历历在目,当孩子们还沉浸在丰富多彩的探究学习中时,我们的“亚洲探索——溯源东方印迹,揽胜亚洲传奇” 将在下周五,12月6日迎来盛大闭幕活动,期待大家的光临!接下来就请跟随着我们一览课堂吧!
While the wonderful scenes of the opening ceremony are still vivid in our memories, and though our students are still immersed in inquiry learning, our Asia Carnival will finally come to a close on Friday 6th December. Please join us in an experience of exploring Asia.
一年级的小朋友们开启了“探寻传奇中国”的第一站。这里汇聚了小朋友们、家长们和老师们的奇思妙想:国粹京剧、巾帼英雄、中华美食、京城文化、西安风情、上海大舞台和56个民族文化!教室的布置趣味十足。除此之外,孩子们自己在探究过程中诞生的小手工艺品也让大家眼前一亮:扎染、彩泥、京剧脸谱、江南油纸伞……
Welcome to the first station of the Asian carnival, that is exploring legendary China where you can see the children, parents and teachers’ brilliant ideas, such as Peking Opera, Hua Mulan, Chinese food, capital culture, Xi’An history, Shanghai grand stage and the culture of 56 ethnic groups! With all those traditional decorations and pictures, it seems like you are having a surreal journey to China. In addition, the small craftsmade by the students themselves in the process of exploration also dazzled everyone. Creative tie-dye crafts, colorful mud food, Peking Opera masks, colorful Jiangnan oil-paper umbrella and so on.
课堂上,学生们不但领略了中国不同民族和节庆文化,还研究了苗族和蒙古族的饮食、服饰和乐器,还领略了中华美食的魅力。老师带着孩子们一起去发现那些源于中国的益智玩具——七巧板。巧板在指尖游走,千变万化。二年级学生则开始了“中国著名朝代”的历史探索。 “风雅宋”、“故宫的前世今生”、 “盛世大唐”“、秦风汉韵”。通过对各朝历史的学习,家校合作对教室进行一番装饰,带领孩子们一起穿越历史,探索不同的朝代文化。宋词的美,被孩子们装饰在一盏盏宫灯上;故宫的建成、明清朝代的更替,故宫里的数字、颜色、建筑里的神兽、藏品都成为孩子们的探索课题。孩子们饶有兴致地探究唐朝的文化、服饰、美食等,一起“贴花钿”,从实践当中学习唐诗,演绎唐诗,让唐朝的文化与风采印在每位同学的心中。孩子们探究秦汉历史,了解秦汉的逐步统一,不断开疆拓土的过程。小小科学家还带来了地动仪模型,给大家讲解其中的原理,并提出自己的质疑,引发讨论。
Grade Two studied ‘Famous Dynasty of China’, involving ‘Beauty Song’, ‘Ming Qing – The Past and Present lives of the Palace Museum’ , ‘The Great Tang Dynasty’and ‘Qin Han Style’. We decorated our classrooms after learning the history. We learnt the Song Poems. Look, students copied their favorite Song Poems on the lanterns. By watching documentary videos, students have known about the construction of the Palace Museum and the histories of Ming and Qing dynasties. Students were encouraged to explore and know about the Palace Museum from different perspectives they were interested in, such as number, color, architecture and holy animals. Students explored the culture, costumes, and food of the entire Tang Dynasty with interest, and made the woman’s head ornament on the head, which deeply imprinted the culture and style of the Tang Dynasty in the hearts of each student. Students inquired the history of Qin and Han Dynasties with great interest, and realized that the whole history of Qin and Han Dynasties is the process of China’s gradual reunification through war and continuous expansion of territory. The little scientists in Class 2D brought the model of the seismograph, explained in details to the class, and raised their own doubts, which triggered the whole class discussion about the doubts. The Chinese classical architectural models accompanied students walking through the human architectural history.
三、四年级的同学们则“飞”向日本和泰国。三年级以“醉”美京都和“静谧与童真”为主题探索日本,在学习京都的衣食住行的同时,也对日本传统文化与中国传统文化进行了对比,孩子们既能看到中日两国的区别,也更好地建立了对中日文化之间的联系。孩子们研究着自己喜欢的漫画人物,尝试去探索漫画作家背后的故事。四年级的“泰之盛宴”和“动感泰国”,各有千秋。借助老师准备的“线索”和互联网,记录下芒果糯米饭的制作环节;主题班会上,尝试了泰国的特有运动项目——藤球,写下对泰国的美好祝福……
Grade Three and Grade Four students are flying to the destination of Carnival , getting to explore foreign culture. 3A takes Fall in love with Kyotoas theme. While exploring the food, cloth, building and transportation in Kyoto, it also makes a comparative study between Japanese and Chinese traditional culture. Students can see the differences between China and Japan, and also establish a better connection between them through the study of their favorite comic characters and they also tried to explore the stories behind the comic writers, which led them to the think of Japanese comic history. The Thai feast of Class 4A and the dynamic Thailand of Class 4B are also different. In the inquiry class, with the help of “clues” prepared by the teacher, students research and record the recipe of mango glutinous rice; during the class meeting time, students tried the unique sport of Thailand, fujiqiu, wrote down good wishes for Thailand.
音乐课上老师带领学生体验不同文化的音乐。欣赏京剧,模仿京剧中的身手动作。学唱《龙的传人》,学生们也组起舞龙舞狮团。跟着老师学跳日本的传统庆祝舞蹈“盆踊”与那古老的泰国打击乐,乘着音乐的旋律在亚洲各国穿梭!
During the Carnival, the music classrooms were transformed into vehicles that allowed us to travel to different places and eras! Grade One and Two students took an in depth look at China’s rich artistic history and musical culture, by studying Beijing Opera as well as learning how to do a traditional Dragon Dance. Grade Three students studied the Japanese Bon Dance. Grade Four delved into the traditional music of Thailand.
我们还请来了剑道老师,让学生体验日本剑道;化身美食家,带上食材,带孩子们做寿司……
We also invited teachers of Kendo to make students experience the spirit of Kendo. They incarnate themselves as gourmets, bring all kinds of food materials and take children to make Sushi.
体育课上,老师教学生武术的基本动作。武术是中国的精魂,是东方文化瑰宝。看到同学们虎虎生威的样子,真令人期待闭幕式上的演出!
Wushu is the soul of China. In PE class, teachers taught students the basic skills of traditional martial arts. We are looking forward students’ 10-step boxing show at the closing ceremony!
美术课上,孩子们设计绘制憨态可掬的国宝大熊猫,描绘青花瓷。高年级的孩子学习兵马俑和敦煌壁画,并开始自己的创作,绘制出个性鲜明的兵马俑人物和飞天神像。此外,学生们还用拼贴技术制作了海报,设计了受未来理念启发的亚洲各国时装作品……
In the Art Class, our kids created so many beautiful pieces of art, such as designing the cutest panda, creating the shape of blue and white porcelain. Our higher grade students got some knowledge about Terracotta Warriors and Dunhuang Frescoes. They interpretated this great legacy though their own eyes with a totally different vision. Additionally, our students created the poster and designed some clothes inspired by the culture of Asia.
六年级本次探索的主题为多元狮城新加坡、万象之国老挝、高山之国尼泊尔、幸福王国不丹。从食物、体育运动及休闲活动、风土习俗、传统节日、传统服饰、地理概况、旅游观光、音乐与舞蹈等方面对这四个国家进行探究学习。
The theme countries of this exploration in Grade Six are Singapore, Laos, Nepal and Bhutan. The four classes made an in-depth study of these countries from the aspects of food, sports activities, customs, traditional festivals, traditional clothing, geographical overview, tourism, music and dance.

In our closing ceremony you will see more works students have done during this month, such as the Lion Dance and Dao Ma Dan (characters from Peking Opera). You may also see students’ cross-subject works.
